For generations, missions has often meant sending someone from one country to another. That work is important and will always have a place. But we believe there is another powerful way to reach communities: Equip the people who are already there.

A traditional international missionary must learn the language, understand the culture, raise financial support, relocate their family, and spend years building relationships.

A local missionary already knows the language. They already understand the culture. Their family, friends, workplace, school, church, and neighborhood are already around them. They do not have to travel across the world to reach their mission field. They are already living in it.

Over the past year, we have hosted two Go Send Global retreats in Costa Rica where young adults were challenged to see themselves differently. Not simply as Christians attending church, but as people who have been sent by God into their own communities. Several have responded by asking to be mentored and equipped as local missionaries. They are beginning to live out their personal mission right in their own backyards.

That is why we are so excited about the Go Send Center. Having a permanent place in Costa Rica allows us to host more locally led retreats, welcome more youth and young adult groups, disciple emerging leaders, and create a greater pathway for people to discover their calling and be launched back into their communities on mission.

Our vision is not simply to send more missionaries to Costa Rica. We want to raise up missionaries from within Costa Rica. We will not wait for missionaries to come to Costa Rica. We will grow them from within.
